From the Desk of Travis Gay…

Our heart’s desire at The Awakening is to be led by the Holy Spirit in all things. During our sabbatical this past August, we felt the Lord leading us to an elder-led form of church government. We believe that this is the Biblical model of church leadership demonstrated in the New Testament church as well as much of Old Testament corporate leadership.

Since last August, we have been taking steps towards making this transition. I’ve talked to numerous church leaders who are part of elder-led churches, read the scriptures, and read books on church government as well to help discern how our elders should function.

This is a process that we don’t want to rush. Elder selection is an important, prayerful process that must be led by the Holy Spirit. We don’t have a definite timetable on when this process will be complete but are steadily moving towards this goal every day.

We are excited about this transition and expectant of God’s goodness, wisdom, and power as we follow Him in obedience. Please be praying for God’s guidance as we move forward in this transition.
