First Thursday Outreach

Our First Thursday Outreach for the month of March is going to look a little different than usual and consist of 2 parts: prep & trail magic. Please RSVP on our Facebook page if you think you'll be able to join us on Saturday!

February/March/April is when several people set out to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail (AT) - a hiking footpath that spans over 2,000 miles from Georgia to Main. Trail magic is any act of kindness that people do for these hikers: a ride to town, a free meal, an encouraging word, etc! So we are going to bring the love and kindness of Jesus to this community on March 9th!

THURSDAY, March 7th, 6:00pm
WHERE? Kroger (east side)
WHAT? Shopping for Saturday & Outreach in the Store

SATURDAY, March 9th, 1:00pm
WHERE? Kroger off Highway 29 (mtg location)
WHAT? We will carpool from the meeting location to Gooch Gap (MX29+R3 Suches, Georgia for Google Maps). There we will load up what we bought/made on Thursday night into bags + packs and set out towards Gooch Mountain Shelter! This shelter is one of the first on the AT and often where people start to have second thoughts about completing the trail. Most people who are hiking the trail are doing so to "find themselves," to have a spiritual encounter, to declutter their lives, and/or to experience nature. When we get to the shelter, we will share our food with them, offer to pack out their trash, and ask them their stories. "Hiker midnight" is around 9pm, so we'll most likely clear out when it starts getting dark!

***Note: You must be in decent physical shape for the Saturday outreach, as we will be hiking a total of approximately 3 miles on the AT. You are welcome to join on Thursday if you can't come on Saturday. Likewise, you are also welcome to join on Saturday even if you can't join on Thursday night (just be sure to RSVP here)! Feel free to also bring your own food!
